About our service The service is provided for established charities and voluntary organisations that need to use a web site to help support their charitable works. By "charitable works" we mean works that provide a practical and tangible benefit to the public and which is not for profit. We do not allow political propaganda or religious preaching on our web sites. The service is for charities and voluntary organisations that do not already have a web site. We develop web sites from the text and graphic images provided by charities and voluntary organisations. If you look in google for www.freetocharities.org.uk you will find various web sites that we have developed. Identity With the ever increasing amount cyber crime it is important that the identity of your organisation can be established. Accordingly we require a list of your organisation's officials with their full names and job titles. If your organisation is seeking donations or sponsorships from the public, we also require a clear and readable electronic copy of the organisation's official Certificate of Registration (as a charity, or equivalent) issued by the relevant Government Ministry, or for UK charities the organisation's UK Charity Commission registration number. This evidence of your organisation's legitimacy will be displayed in the web site. Web site content We can receive text and photos for your organisation's web site by e-mail, with the text in Microsoft Word, RTF or plain text formats. Adobe pdf files can also be used for visitors to download. Your text should be organised so that it can be split into separate web pages such as About us, Projects, News, Events, Volunteering, Donating, Links etc. Where possible we would like one or two relevant high quality photos for each web page to illustrate the text on that page. Photos should be separate fullsize original digital images not scanned images. If more photos are required then please set up your own photo album at Flickr (Yahoo). We will include a link to your photo album on the web site. The web site may contain a simple online form, links to other web sites, e-mail addresses and other services such as photo albums by Flickr (Yahoo), slide shows by slide, discussion forums at Invisionfree, Online credit card donations at Ammado, betterplace.org, Charity Choice (free to UK registered charities), Global Giving, and Paypal (available in many countries). Web site address The web site will have an address of the form "www.freetocharities.org.uk/code", where the code is usually the initials of your organisation, and is allocated by us. However you can purchase your own domain name from any domain name reseller to forward to :- "http://www.freetocharities.org.uk/code/index.php" Updating the web site You may request changes and additions to the web site once per month. Make sure that your updating instructions are very clear as to which web site pages are to be changed and exactly where the insertions and deletions are required. We do not replace entire pages unless all of the information has changed e.g. News or Events schedule pages. Your changes must harmonise with the existing web site content and be matters of consequence, not just cosmetic to change the look of pages. Web site visitors There are about 250 million web sites in the world, so your organisation's web site will not be noticed unless you publicise it. We recommend that you do the following :-
