About our service
The service is provided for established charities and voluntary
organisations that
need to use a web site to help support their charitable works. We
create simple web sites from the text
and graphic
images provided by charities and voluntary organisations. The service
is aimed at charities and voluntary organisations that do not already
have a web site.
Web site content
We can receive text and photos for your
organisation's web site by e-mail, with the text in Microsoft Word, RTF
or plain text formats. Adobe pdf files can also be used for visitors to
download. Your text should be organised so that it can be split into
separate web pages such as About us, Projects, News, Events,
Volunteering, Donating, Links etc.
Where possible we would like one or two relevant good quality photo for
each web page to illustrate the text on
that page. If more photos are required then
please set up your own photo album at Flickr
(Yahoo). We will include a link to your photo album on the web
site.
The web site may contain a simple online form, links to other web
sites, e-mail
addresses and other services such as photo albums by Flickr (Yahoo), slide shows by slide, discussion forums at Invisionfree, Online
credit/debit card donations at Charity
Choice (free to UK registered charities), Paypal (available in many
countries) and Global
Giving.
Web site address
The web site will have an address of the form
"www.freetocharities.org.uk/code", where the code is usually the
initials of your organisation, and is allocated by us. However you can
purchase your own domain name from any domain name reseller to forward
to :- "http://www.freetocharities.org.uk/code/index.php"
Updating
the web site
You may request changes and additions to the web site once per month.
Please be sure that your updating instructions make clear which web
site pages are to be changed and exactly where the insertions and
deletions are required.
Web site visitors
There are about 234 million web sites in the world (December 2009), so
your
organisation's web site will not be noticed unless you
publicise it. We recommend that you do the following :-
- include the web site's address on your letter
headings,
notices, advertisements, at the bottom of all of your e-mails.
- notify your users, members, volunteers and
sponsors of the web site. Keep it up to date, and use it to communicate
with perhaps a newsletters and an event list.
- request sympathetic organisations to include a
link to the web site in their web site. You can search google for
"www.freetocharities.org.uk" to see various organisations that already
have links to web sites that we have developed.
Most of our web sites have more than 50 visitors each month, but this
can only be achieved by you spending time and effort to
publicise the web site. We only continue to maintain and host
web sites with visitors each month.
Donations
If your organisation requests donations, sponsorship or fees
then we require a clear and readable electronic copy of the
organisation's official Certificate of Registration issued by the
relevant Government Ministry, or for UK charities the
organisation's UK Charity Commission registration number. This evidence
of your organisation's legitimacy will be displayed on the web
site.
Applying for a free web site
If your organisation's management committee would like to use our
service, and agrees to actively publicise the web site,
then please complete the application form and click the send button.
