Wednesdays at 9.30 am – 11.00 am and 11.00 am – 12.30 pm.
Shirley Community Centre, Stratford Road, Shirley.
Thursdays at 10.15 am – 11.45 am.
You are welcome to come and give the class a try, free of charge, to see if it suits you, but please telephone first to check that we will be there.
Gentle exercise classes consist of:
- MOBILITY AND WARM UP
Slowly and rhythmically putting the joints and main muscle groups
through a wide range of movements and preparing them for the
involvement to follow.
- MAJOR ACTIVITY
Increasing the intensity, low impact through joints, strengthening
bones and building muscle. The heartbeat is raised to a comfortable
level improving cardio vascular performance.
- COOLING DOWN
Tapering down slowly from the main workout until the body is back to a
steady state.
- STRETCHING
Stretching the muscles that have been involved in the exercise to take
out any tension.
- VARIETY
Other exercises can be line dancing, use of equipment for resistance
strength and toning, Tai Chi.
- BENEFITS
Improving posture and balance; building confidence; reducing pain and
stiffness; socialising and enjoyment - all of which will help reduce
the risk of falling, a primary cause of fractures in people with
osteoporosis.
